Welcome to the MSGenWeb site for Panola County. Panola County was created in 1836. The area was part of the land ceded to the United States by the Chickasaw Indian Nation under the Treaty of Pontotoc Creek in 1832, and lands ceded to the United States by the Choctaw Indian Nation under the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in 1830. Panola County has two county seats. The town of Sardis is the county seat for the First District, the northern part of the county, and Batesville is the county seat for the Second District, the southern part of the county. We are always in need of more information. I do not live in the area so I am dependent on all of you for more genealogical data.
